Motorhead 2011 UK Tour Review
By Rockson
Motorhead stroll into town for their annual show at the best live venue around, the Manchester Apollo, backed by a couple of old-time punk rockers, UK Subs and the dreadful Anti-Nowhere league. I can understand the thinking here, bring in a couple of punk bands to swell the flagging crowds that Motorhead have suffered here over the past couple of years, and it worked a treat, the joint was packed to the rafters.
UK Subs? A great, long-standing punk band, with by all accounts, a decent live set. To be honest, I missed out on their set tonight as I was hooking up with some old friends outside at the Apsley Cottage for beers and a catch-up. I was talking to someone that informed me i'd missed a blinder....oh well!
Inside the venue and checking out the photo-pit for my place during the Motorhead set, I was unfortunate enough to witness possibly the worst sounding band i've ever seen on a stage....Anti-Nowhere League?? The soundguy must have had ears like Van Gogh!!! Lacking in ALL aspects, I decided to hit the bar before Lemmy & Co arrive.
Right on cue, the world war sirens sound and the kleig lights begin to search the Apollo's ceilings for bombers....Ok, so that's obviously gonna be the opener i'm thinking, as the very next photographer to me leans over and says 'Whaddya think they'll open with'? 'Bomber' it is, and they blast through it like it was never there and straight into the next one...and the next and next....
There's not much else you can say about this band, they play loud, they play the same set they always did, reliable, honest rock n roll....it's Motorhead!! 'Nuff Said!
